Treatment Modalities

Overview

Although the optimal treatment modality will depend on the major issues being delt with, all of these issues can be effectively treated in one or more of the listed modalities: Depression; Anxiety; Adaptive use of anger; Claiming your personal power; Undoing lifelong victim position; Fear of Success; Loss and Grief; intimacy and feelings of connection.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy provides an opportunity to explore feelings, reactions, and life adaptations both in terms of current functioning and their historic origins.

Group Therapy

Most of the symptoms and dissatisfactions for which people seek therapy can be successfully treated in an appropriate therapy group. Regardless of the specific issues, therapy groups help people to feel more connected to others and less alone in their suffering.   In additon, it helps with:  Developing  more satisfying relationships;  Becoming more authentic; Improving self image/self esteem;  Feeling Safe to show both strengths and vulnerabilities;  Understanding your needs and adaptive ways to get them met.  In addition to the groups that I lead, I am acquainted with many group therapists in the community and am happy to help you with an appropriate referral.

Couples Therapy

Couples counseling can be beneficial for a wide continuum of difficulties, ranging from couples who are wanting to improve relationships that are basically good to those that are in such serious crisis that the are close to the breaking point.  Therapy can help with: Communication; Financial disagreements; Infidelity/Trust issues; In-law issues;  Parenting Issues;  Attachment and Intimacy.

Brief Psychotherapy

Many patients find substantial improvement in Brief Psychotherapy of 20 sessions or less,  but the ultimate duration of treatment  depends on the nature of the problems and the patient's goals. Most resolve acute issues quickly, getting back to a pre "crisis" level of comfort  that allows them to feel like their "regular" selves.  But  after that, patients may  decide to work on  more long standing issues that have kept them from feeling as satisfied and self actualized as they would like. They may then choose to become involved in a  longer term learning process.
